Tashkent commits 6 billion UZS to improve drainage system
In response to recent criticism from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tashkent’s city administration has allocated 6 billion UZS to enhance the capital’s drainage system. The decision was formalized in a decree signed by Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov on October 22.
The funding comes from the surplus of the city’s local budget for the third quarter of this year and is aimed at addressing issues with the drainage system, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The decision also includes an additional allocation of 20.4 billion UZS for construction and repair works designed to prevent flooding in Tashkent during the rainy season.
President Mirziyoyev had expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the city’s drainage infrastructure during a meeting held on October 21. He instructed city officials to develop a comprehensive master plan and program for building and improving the drainage system, including the construction of artificial reservoirs, by the end of the year.
