Uzbekistan’s food delivery market deemed monopolized by Yandex Eats and Express24
The Competition Committee has officially recognized Yandex Eats and Express24 as dominant players in the nation’s food delivery market. The companies, which recently announced plans to consolidate onto a single platform, have been classified as digital platform operators holding a monopoly in this sector.
According to the Competition Committee’s ruling, YandexGo UB LLC, Yandex Eats LLC JV, and Express24 APP LLC are now acknowledged as dominant market players. Yandex Go holds a monopoly in the taxi aggregation market, while Yandex Eats and Express24 lead in the food and consumer goods delivery services.
The announcement from the committee is based on notifications from Yandex Eats LLC JV and YandexGo UB LLC, confirming their dominant positions in their respective markets. The committee expressed approval of the companies' compliance with new regulatory requirements, adding that a compulsory antitrust compliance system will be implemented to prevent any abuse of their market dominance. Ongoing monitoring will also be carried out to ensure adherence.
On October 25, Yandex Uzbekistan announced it had acquired part of Express24’s assets. In response to Kun.uz’s inquiry, Yandex’s press service confirmed the deal does not fall under state economic concentration oversight requirements, though it has been reported to the Competition Committee.
This recognition of YandexGo’s dominance follows the committee’s earlier ruling on December 4 last year that designated the company as the leader in the taxi aggregation market in Uzbekistan.
