Gov’t amends traffic law to dismiss camera-recorded violations if not processed in 48 hours
New amendments to the Administrative Responsibility Code state that drivers will be exempt from fines for traffic violations recorded by automated photo and video cameras if the violation data is not forwarded to enforcement authorities within 48 hours. This legislative update, which aims to enhance fairness and accountability in traffic enforcement, introduces two new grounds for terminating administrative violation cases.
According to Article 271 of the amended Code, traffic violation cases may now be dismissed under the following circumstances:
• There is no available information on the vehicle owner, especially in cases where violations are recorded through automated camera systems.
• Violation data captured by automated camera systems is not submitted to the authorized penalty-imposing authority within the stipulated 48-hour timeframe.
This amendment seeks to streamline traffic violation processing and ensure that violations are addressed promptly, reducing the risk of delayed enforcement actions.
